3 tips for your loved ones to rest assured, as you rest in peace
Success and peace of mind are only a few of the many wishes you can send to your loved ones at the beginning of this New Year. Following these three tips will also allow them to rest assured, when you rest in peace.
Will or no will, your assets will go
The law stipulates who inherits your assets, rights and obligations upon your death. If you do not have any heirs and if you have no will, all your possessions will become part of and merge with the public good. If, however, you have taken the time to draft a will, you are entitled to distribute your belongings however and to whomever you see fit. To this day, it remains the best way to protect yourself from the unexpected. Planning ahead avoids uncertainty and ensure that your last wishes are respected!
Family Ties
Nothing in this world is more complex and volatile than family relations.
Are you caring for an aging relative? Do you have young children suffering from a deficiency?
Your partner is not yet divorced and has children from a prior relationship? Your common-law spouse is not a family member according to the law.
Planning ahead also permits you to specify and clarify your last wishes, hence avoiding many family conflicts; because even after death, life goes on.
Taxes and Death
As the saying goes, those are the only two unavoidable aspects of life.
Even as you rest in peace, you are not exempt from filing and paying your taxes.
What of your business and managing its daily activities and operations? How will this affect the shareholder agreement?
After death, your business still survives. If this important change is not managed properly and ahead of time, this may have inevitable consequences on your estate and succession.
